100% record for Under 12 Boys

Norwich Dragons entered 4 teams into the Norwich City tournament: an under 12 boys team, under 10 boys team, under 12 girls team and under 10 girls team.  Sadly, due to the impact of the weather on one of the Taverham pitches, the tournament was reduced by half, Dragons had 8 teams ready and willing to play.

The boys played in the afternoon and were both undefeated at the end of the day.  Both the teams won their tournament with the under 12s winning every match.  This is the first time the under 12s have won a tournament and the first time Dragons top the podium in both the boys competitions. The boys showed great determination and played some lovely hockey at times.

The club is extremely proud of the efforts of all the players and many thanks to the coaches and helpers on the day and at training, that have prepared the teams so well.

Norwich Dragons under 12 Boys match report

It was a glorious chilly winters day that saw the Young Dragon team win their under 12 age group without losing one game.  They played extremely well as a team. The defence worked well with help from the midfield which released Tom down the right wing who then passed to the forwards to score the goals. This was the pattern which was so effective in every match.  It was one of the teams finest performances.  There was as usual great support and encouragement from Natalie, Pat and Ray…..and Am (who became the team doctor – see match report)

Norwich Dragons 3, Norwich City 1 Early lead by City and then quick 2 goals from the dragons. Tom quick break on right wing great cross knocked in my Luke. Score 1.1  Raunaq shoots at goal, deflected by goal keeper and in by Tom. 2.1 dragons.  3rd goal reverse hit by Raunaq through the goalie legs 3.1 to Dragons
Great character by the Dragons to come back and take control of the game. The Crowd cannot believe the result!!!
Pedro took one for the team as a City player unleashed missile towards goal at Norwich City short corner with Pedro charging like a cheetah and bravely stopping it with his right ankle- oow,ow…  Lots of worry with various suspected diagnosis on offer with probably soft tissue injury being likely cause. Pedro taken off but made rapid recovery to rejoin the squad in later matches albeit limping but still managed to score some more goals.
Good defence by James and Edward.
What a great start!
Norwich Dragons 2, Pelicans 1
Raunaq running towards goal everyone yelling for him to pass , ignored all advice and took great undercut shot edge of the D and top right side of net. 1.0 Dragons. Crowd goes crazy with high fives all round.
Good pressure Dragons and 2nd goal Dragons. 2.0 Dragons.  Cameron with the goal.
Good goal from Pelican so 2.1
Late surge from Pelicans and brave defence from James and Edward and excellent saves from brave keeper Jaquan.
Great result from 2nd match. Great relief from the bench not to concede equaliser from Pelicans.
Norwich Dragons 2, Watton 1
Rapid start great run by Tom with pass and in by Luke. Great team goal dragons 1.0
Brave Pedro limbering up and joins action..
Great defending by Raunaq cross goal pass picked up by Tom who has blistering run on the right with great cross and goal by Luke through legs of keeper. 2.0 dragons.
Again last surge by Watton but great save by our keeper Jaquan.

Good attacking and defence with midfield holding their own ground. Good work by Cameron and Edward.
Dragons 2, Dereham 1
Pat and Nat emphasise team must not be complacent.  Scrappy start. Nat emphasising positioning.  Raunaq super reverse undercut From edge of d into top left corner 1,0 dragons. Excellent goal!
Several crosses by Tom and narrowly missed wide by Luke and Cameron. Crowd however can sense another goal.
Great cross possible shot and over line by Pedro who stole Cameron’s goal!!!! Trial by close circuit tv but technology not fully in operation yet.
Great reply team goal Dereham 2.1
Great win.
Man of match voted Tom by huge majority because of his excellent runs down the wing which resulted in about 50% of our goals.

Match Report by Raunaq with a little help from his paps!!!

Under 10 boys report

0-0 Magpies
This a game dominated by the two defences with the Dragons defence marshalled by Daniel, Captain Tom and James and Edward holding firm.  This was a good result against a strong team.
1-1 Pelicans
We dominated this game from start to finish and created 4 or 5 great chances. Edward, Tom and Joe looked dangerous throughout. When Edward made the breakthrough there looked to be no way back for Pelicans until , from nowhere, they scored a well hit equaliser from the edge of the D.  Pelicans had their keeper to thank for this result.
2-0 Norwich City Bs
City’s keeper was inspired and managed to thwart many attacks.  Tom managed to take two of several chances created.
1-0 Norwich City As
We probed for large parts of this game again without success, Tom scored the only goal of the game. We had a late scare but had to thank Angus for pulling off a great save toward the end.
Overall a great team effort with lots of chances created and a solid defence and keeper. The best thing is that this team still has lots more to offer as it gets used to playing as a unit.
