Norwich Dragons were in action on Sunday and Monday this week. On Sunday the Men’s Masters played in their England Hockey Knockout fixture and on Monday a combined Ladies 1s/2s Team gave Norwich School 1st Team a warm up game in preparation for their East Finals.
Norwich Dragons Men’s Masters 5 v Wisbech 5 (Wisbech win 5-3 on penalty strokes)
What a game! what weather ! what if !
Dragons entered the Mens Masters o40’s this year in round one with the hope of having a more even game than in the cup last year when we suffered a 7-0 drubbing from Norwich City. A more even match you could not have asked for with the scores 0-0 at the start (obviously) 4-4 at half time and 5-5 at full time. Flicks were traded, 1-1,2-2,3-3,4-3 and then the game was finally decided when Wisbech converted their last flick and won the match 5-3 (or 10-8 to be precise).
Every player played their heart out in a good spirited game and the spectators (my wife!) were treated to a goal fest. Thanks go to the umpires and Wisbech, who nearly conceded, for making it a fun, if not wet Sunday afternoon. The Trophy may be over but we now move onto the Shield happy in the knowledge we can score plenty of goals! Probably the kiss of death for our next match which will be a 1-0 slog!

Norwich Dragons Ladies 1s/2s 4:0 Norwich School Girls 1st Team
With several current and ex Norwich Dragons Players making up the Norwich School 1st Team; Freddie Briscoe, Ruth Willmott, Alice Guest, Lucy Hopgood, Emma Moolman, Klara Moolman, Sophie Cullens, Laura Bailey, Amy Brown and Sarah Radley, it felt more like a Dragons training game.
Lucy Hopgood had an excellent game for the School, creating problems for the Dragons when she played in the centre and then on the right. Freddie pulled of some great saves and Alice and Ruth worked hard in defence feeding the ball out to the midfield at every opportunity. On the Dragons team strong saves from Siobhan and a couple of goal line clearances from Donna and Shelly ensured a cleansheet for the hosts, however, the fire power and link up play of the midfield and forward line came through, with Hayley x2, Sarah and Karen bagging the goals.
