NDHC League Match Reports: 07/12/13

Norfolk Women’s Premier League
Norwich Dragons 3s 1-1 City 3s

Facing their closest opposition, with only one point separating the two, Dragons went into their match expecting a close game. The final score of 1-1 was fought hard for by both sides with attempts on both goals right until the last whistle.

Maintaining great passing and pace, Dragons kept good possession in the first half. The forwards worked hard making runs and playing the ball around the D, persistence paid off and Lynne Price scored from a well worked short corner for the Dragons.

The second half saw both sides step up the pace with some notable runs from the young Norwich City team, each time chasing the long balls all the way to the base line. Eventually the well drilled Norwich City team managed to even the score line, scoring from a clinical short corner, deflected in by the injector through the left post.

Undetered the Dragons pushed hard and beautiful linking play from the midfielders led to several more short corners but Dragons couldn’t convert and for the remainder of the half were sadly unable to find another goal. Both teams were very well matched, which is fairly reflected in the final score of 1-1.

Empresa Norfolk Girls Development League
Norwich Dragons 2:1 Dereham

A great team effort from the development girls, lead to a 2-1 win against Dereham.
Dragons started the game being under attack by Dereham, but with solid defending by Katie Franks and Carmel Windsor Waite, we stopped Dereham having any shots on goal.  We played a great passing game out from defence into attack, with some great runs down the wings by Rosie Skipp and Laura Hansell.  Dragons first goal came from a well earned short corner after great work by Izzy Wolfe. The short corner was hit out to Helen Marsh who had a good shot on goal.  This was saved by the keeper, and the rebound was beautifully followed up by Rachel Bruce, to put Dragons 1-0 up minutes before the end of the first half.
Dragons went into the second half with full confidence and played a very attacking game.  Half way through this half Dereham took advantage of a break down in Dragons play.  This lead to a well driven run into the circle followed by a well struck shot on goal, which allowed Dereham to equalise.  This was very unfortunate for Isobelle Keane, who was standing in as our keeper today, as this was her first touch of the game.  This equaliser fired Dragons up.  We continued to play a great passing game, and with hard work up front by Rachel Bruce, Catherine Matthews, and Anja Wimmer lead us to lots of attacks on goal.  After two consecutive well earned short corners Aoife Lowe Davies finally got the ball into the net.  This put Dragons 2-1 up.
Dragons deserved to win this game 2-1, as we played some of our best hockey.  Thank you to Emma Tabrett and Abi Cowe for helping out on the pitch, and to Bridget LeGood for managing the team.
POM – Laura Hansell.
