Back in 2009 we were lucky enough to have a gang of 3 coaches, Mike Banham, John Butler and Hazel Medler that provided weekly Quicksticks coaching to several local schools, such as Lakenham, Cavell and Bignold Primary Schools. This generosity of their time and energy continued for many years.
These days we rely on existing or former players and coaches providing adhoc sessions when requested, which is great for the youngsters in our local community and our reputation.
This month Kristina and Ali Smyth provided Acle Rainbows with some Quicksticks coaching, with lots of smiles and enthusiasm from all 19 girls, including daughter Meredith. To achieve their Agility Badge the girls had to try out a new sport, hopefully they have been inspired to learn more at the Club!
The girls enjoyed learning how to hold the stick correctly, pushing the ball, passing, receiving, moving with the ball and of course some shooting!
This week (Thursday), Pete Thomas is at Brooke Primary School on an annual day dedicated to a former pupil that sadly passed away aged 10. This year, the school will be celebrating Max Muntingh Day by taking part in Field Hockey and they contacted Norwich Dragons for help.
Pete kindly agreed to give up his full day to help the youngsters and staff to have a fun day of hockey with the Max Muntingh Trophy being awarded to the youngster showing the values that Max displayed at the school.
A big thank you to Kristina, Ali and Pete for their valued volunteering at the Club.
The Club has several sets of Quicksticks equipment, which are ideal for helping youngsters up to age 11 be introduced to hockey, so if club members have a school or club that they want to provide a session for, please get in touch.
