Sunday’s Young Dragon fixtures brought reason for the boys to celebrate a good win, however a long away trip for the girls ends in disappointment.
The Boys under 14s team had the odd situation of making a short journey across the border to Weybread, for a ‘home’ fixture against Magpies. Magpies were due to be hosting our boys and IES in a triangular event, which IES then withdrew from.
However, the Young Dragons showed they don’t mind where they play and came away with 3 points from their first game in England Hockey Midlands League 4.
Goals were scored by Edward Murphy (2), Charlie Nunn and Harry Williams. POM Edward Murphy.
Other teams in the initial league round include Magpies, Bury St Edmunds, IES and City, the Boys take on Bury at the Den on 19th October at 11.30am in their next fixture. For full details of the league, results and fixtures click here.
The Under 18 Girls had a slightly longer journey in round 2 of the England Hockey knockout, having beaten Long Sutton 7-2 in the first round, the girls were confident heading into the next round at Spalding HC. Whilst creating lots of opportunities and dominating play, the girls couldn’t convert their chances and found themselves up against a strong keeper. At halftime honours were even at 1-1 thanks to a goal from Aoife Lowe-Davies and the visiting supporters were sure that the Young Dragons would make more of their opportunities in the second half, unfortunately that was not to be and the score remained at 1-1 when the final whistle blew. No extra time for the girls, so straight into flicks, which Spalding managed to win with 3 goals to 2.
