NDHC has signed up to Join In Local Sport, a free, national celebration of local sport. On 18/19th August, sports clubs around the UK will be hosting special events to capture the once-in-a-lifetime enthusiasm for sport that this summer’s events will generate. On Wednesday 25th July Cabinet Minister Nick Hurd was very impressed with our story from being close to folding, when Pinebanks closed, to a rapidly growing Club that will be a major force in hockey in years to come.

With the rapid increase in the use of social media, some clubs have seen their members banned for long periods as a direct consequence of inappropriate items posted on Facebook etc.  The NDHC Committee has responded by adopting a new Social Media Policy for the Club, which sets out the controls and sanctions associated with the use of Social Media by Club Members.

As per the Club’s RESPECT Code of Conduct, NDHC expects all Club Members to show respect to members of the Hockey Family, whether they are team-mates, club members, coaches, opponents, umpires or spectators.  Any inappropriate comments will be acted on and could lead to bans or expulsion.

Training for Development League will commence on Thursday 23rd August 6:30pm to 7:45pm for both boys and girls at the same time together. Again on 30th August, both girls and boys will train at the same time, together. From September onwards, the girls go to Fridays (6:15pm to 7:30pm) and the boys stay on Thursdays (6:45pm to 7:30pm). We are doing this as it is towards the end of the school holidays and numbers may be low (including numbers of coaches!).

Given the 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony is just 20 days away, it is time to publicise the events we plan to host at the Den over the Olympic period. As previously announced, we were delighted to have been selected by England Hockey to be one of only 11 Hockey Club Hockey Houses sponsored by GB Hockey. This provides us with many free of charge GB Hockey items to deck out the Goals Clubhouse.

So for your chance to watch the GB Hockey matches live on TV, get yourself along to the Goals Clubhouse for all except the games on Sunday 29th July (evening) and Saturday 11th August (afternoon and evening). Gather with other Club Members to soak up the Olympic atmosphere.

Did you get to see the Olympic Torch as the Relay travelled through Norfolk this week? If so, you might have seen GB Women’s Captain Kate Walsh running in Norwich and Kate was joined by James Colley on the Norwich leg. For those that don’t know James, he has a close association with Norwich Dragons Hockey Club, as well as UEA Hockey Club, being a Chemistry student at the UEA. James is a highly regarded hockey umpire, umpiring at a local and regional level. He also leads the coaching of young umpires in Norfolk.

For a very rare opportunity, how about popping along to the Den in the afternoon of either Saturday 4th August or Sunday 5th August to get a chance to see James and his Olympic Torch? Exact details will be emailed nearer to time.

That weekend also sees an opportunity for non-playing Mums (Saturday) & Dads (Sunday) of our Young Dragons to pick up a hockey stick with other ladies and men new or returning to the sport, in the ‘Give it a Go’ session at the Den!

Summer School Term is drawing to a close and that means the NDHC Juniors Olympics are just around the corner.

Date : Sunday 29th July

Time : 10am meet on Hewett School Field (bottom corner near Goals)

Please supply children with;

Sports clothes (trainers please – astros won’t be needed as we are based on the field)

Sun hat / suncream

Plenty to drink, any snacks etc.

There will be no charge, this is our gift to the juniors for all their efforts and hard work this year (and yours for getting them there and supporting all our juniors teams rain or shine!)

Parents please feel free to stick around and watch or just chill out in the sun (fingers crossed!!!) with a picnic.

We should finish about 12.30 – 1.00pm ish.

IMPORTANT – IF THE WEATHER IS AWFUL I WILL MAKE A DECISION ON THE MORNING AND IT WILL BE CALLED OFF.

ALSO – There will be face paints available to the children for them to show their Dragons colours, if your child has allergies/ should not wear face paints please make me aware.
